Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I've been doing handyman and construction work for over 30 years. My prices are set the way they are because I guarantee a well-finished product. Deposits are required if we are purchasing any items for you, or if it is a project over $500.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Step 1: Agree on the list of work and pricing. You'll get a contract from us via email. Step 2: Get you on the schedule asap. (Deposit obtained, if necessary). Step 3: Excellent work completed in a reasonable amount of time. Step 4: You enjoying your space.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
5 years framing work. I've been remodeling homes since 1995. Was the maintenance person for my own rental properties for years. Licensed through the state of Oregon as a Residential/Small Commercial Contractor.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I was a young man. Worked as a house framer for years in the summer. I kept adding skills.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Many - from folks with rental properties who need regular assistance, to single people who don't have the time to update or maintain their homes, or even older folks who need support maintaining and updating things around their properties. I enjoy the variety.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I just created a dog house, dog run (with fencing) and a chicken coop for a family recently. They really enjoyed what I made - which is of course enjoyable for me.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would ask a couple questions about experience: Are you going to charge me to come out (trip charge)/give estimate? I would ask about relevant experience in solving the issues you are facing. When was the last time you saw/dealt with this type of issue? Be very clear and specific about what your need is. This way, you'll receive the most accurate estimate, and there is less of a chance of confusion in the end result. I would make sure to hire someone that is licensed, bonded and insured. This prevents issues later down the line as well. Make sure to understand your budget and scope of what you are asking. Sometimes sticker shock happens because people may not have done research on the range of prices that can occur within a project. We are happy to discuss this with you if you have not had a chance to do so.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Has anything changed since the issue presented itself? What have you tried? Or have not been able to because you are not sure? Be honest with yourself about the scope of the project. Is there anything that needs to be purchased ahead of time? Do you want to do that? Or do you want the professional to do that for you? What is your budget? Including/excluding materials?
